DIGITAL Nasional Bhd (DNB) will explain the workings of the 5G network to MPs, Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa told the Dewan Rakyat during the winding-up debate on supply bill 2022 today.

“I told DNB last week to engage with all MPs,” he said.

Annuar (Kereteh-BN) said 5G operations must be managed transparently, adding that it was DNB’s responsibility to provide sufficient information about it.

“I will try to arrange this meeting as soon as possible,” he said in response to MPs who had asked about the need for the government to operate the 5G network on its own and the lack of information concerning the deal.

During the supply bill 2022 debate, various MPs also asked the government to reconsider its decision to appoint DNB to operate the 5G network.

Recently, a Reuters report revealed that local mobile telecommunications companies had rejected the terms offered for the 5G network, citing transparency and pricing issues.

Responding to the issue, DNB said it had not yet begun negotiations with telecommunications companies as the offer documents had not been finalised yet. – November 17, 2021.
