THE government is expected to provide up to 80% incentive to contributors of the Social Security Organisation (Socso) under the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme next year.

Deputy Human Resources Minister Awang Hashim said the government provided an incentive of 70% of RM232.80 this year, which is the total contribution paid by contributors in a year.

“With the new incentive, contributors need to pay only an extra RM20 to RM30 in a year,” he said, during the Question and Answer Session at Dewan Rakyat today.

Awang was responding to a question from Mohd Salim Sharif (Jempol-BN) on efforts to encourage e-hailing and p-hailing workers to contribute to Socso and the Employment Insurance System.

The deputy minister said under the Self-Employment Social Security Act (Act 789), there are four subscription plans – RM157.20, RM 232.80, RM442.80 or RM592.80 for a one-year coverage.

Self-employed individuals involved in p-hailing are required to register and contribute to Socso, he added.

He said this is in line with the gazetting of the Self-Employment Social Security Regulations (Contribution Rates for Persons Carrying out Transportation Services and Delivery of Goods or Food) 2021, which came into effect on October 1.

Therefore, individuals involved in transportation services and the delivery of food or goods are required to register and contribute to Socso from October 1, he added. – Bernama, November 17, 2021.
