1,221 hospitalised with Covid yesterday

MALAYSIA logged 1,221 Covid-19 hospital admissions as of midnight with its utilisation rate at 68.3%, the CovidNow website showed.

There was a decrease in overall bed utilisation in hospitals. However, Covid-19 utilisation increased from 39.7 to 39.8%.

Hospital utilisation includes the usage of beds, the number of patients in intensive care units, as well as those on ventilators, and hospital admission indicates the severity of the virus.

There were 274 admissions in the Klang Valley, the highest by state, territory, or region.  

On a seven-day average, the region recorded a 17% increase in hospitalisations with 335 admissions, while bed utilisation stood at 62%.

Selangor reported 216 admissions, Kuala Lumpur (39) and Putrajaya (19).

Meanwhile, Terengganu saw a significant spike in its utilisation rate from 86.3% the previous day to a high of 91.5% with 66 admissions.

Other states reporting new hospital admissions were Johor with 193, Sarawak (116), Sabah (140), Kelantan (123), Negri Sembilan (69), Perak (68), Kedah (42), Pahang (54), Malacca (29), Penang (27), Perlis (17) and Labuan (3).

Meanwhile, the Klang Valley contributed 1,580 of the nation’s 5,413 cases yesterday.

Selangor reported 1,217 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (312) and Putrajaya (51).

Other states that reported new infections were Johor (479), Kedah (438), Kelantan (743), Malacca (116), Negri Sembilan (198), Pahang (329), Perak (250), Perlis (25), Penang (236), Sabah (487), Sarawak (266), Terengganu (261) and Labuan (4).

As of yesterday, there were 65,316 active Covid-19 cases, a drop from 65,956 the day before.

Meanwhile, 50,765 patients are in home quarantine, 8,217 in low-risk quarantine centres and 5,789 hospitalised. – November 17, 2021.
