A FORMER director of a tugboat company was fined RM6,000 by the Kuantan Sessions Court today after pleading guilty to using uncertified telecommunication equipment on his boat six years ago.
Judge Mohd Kafli Che Ali meted out the fine on Yap Aik Seng, 58. He paid the fine.
Yap was charged with using a Superstar model SS-39 marine radio unit, which was not certified according to requirements by the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, in a boat belonging to his company at 14 nautical miles of Kuala Rompin, Rompin, at 10.45am on July 3, 2015.
Based on the facts of the case, a marine police team uncovered the use of the unregistered telecommunication unit in a boat belonging to Yap’s company during an operation in the waters of Tg Gemok (now known as Teluk Gading) in Rompin on that day.
Following investigations, it was found that the radio was not certified by Sirim and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) or other certification agencies.
MCMC prosecuting officer Nazrul Nizam Mohd Zameri prosecuted, while Norazmi Kasani represented Yap. – Bernama, November 16, 2021.
