PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has condemned the #UndiRosak campaign as against the teachings of Islam
He said it is the responsibility of Muslims to vote for leaders because politics is part of Islam.
“
“Selecting leaders is a religious responsibility, a huge trust. Voting is a duty that must be fulfilled by the public and Muslims,” Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying today.
Hadi said is the latest to public figure to voice his objection to the campaign.
Those behind the campaign are calling on unhappy voters to stay out of the polls or cast spoilt votes in protest over the apparent lack of choice or poor quality of candidates in the next election.
Besides the #UndiRosak tag, #ProtesPRU and #GEProtest are also trending on social media.
Last Sunday, Prime Minister Najib Razak blasted the campaign as contradictory to the democratic system in Malaysia.
He said the negative campaigning approach to win the 14th general election (GE14) should not have been made because Malaysians should be given the right to determine their choice of government.
“Everyone has the right to exercise the powers granted by the constitution to every Malaysian citizen who is an eligible and registered voter.” – January 30, 2018.
