MALAYSIA saw an increase in Covid-19 admissions yesterday as 1,352 of the 6,323 new cases were admitted in hospitals for the virus infection, the Health Ministry said.
The day before, 1,306 patients were hospitalised for Covid-19.
According to the ministry’s CovidNow website, current overall bed utilisation dropped from 69.1% the day before to 68.4%. Overall bed utilisation includes non-Covid-19 cases.
Those receiving hospital treatment specifically for Covid-19, meanwhile, increased slightly from 38.2% to 38.4%.
The graphs for each state on the CovidNow portal showed that nearly all states are showing a downward trend in hospitalisation rate, which is one of the country’s indicators on the severity of the Covid-19 spread.
Of the new admissions, Klang Valley had the most with 373.
The most populous region continues to report a decline in its hospital admissions by 2% on a seven-day average, and its current utilisation rate stands at 60%.
Of the 373 admissions in the Klang Valley, Selangor alone had 300, Kuala Lumpur (49) and Putrajaya (24).
Other states that reported new hospital admissions were Johor with 196, Sarawak (176), Sabah (135), Kelantan (92), Perak (86), Negri Sembilan (73), Terengganu (66), Kedah (55), Pahang (35), Malacca (26), Perlis (23) and Penang (16).
There were no new Covid-19 admissions recorded in Labuan.
Meanwhile, of the 6,323 new Covid-19 cases reported yesterday, the Klang Valley accounted for 1,991 or 31.5% of the overall cases.
Selangor had the most cases at 1,568, followed by Kelantan (678) and Johor (649).
Other states reporting new cases were Sabah (579), Sarawak (409), Pahang (403), Kedah (351), Kuala Lumpur (339), Penang (276), Negri Sembilan (275), Perak (246), Terengganu (223), Malacca (158), Putrajaya (84), Perlis (60) and Labuan (25).
As new infections outnumbered recoveries for three consecutive days, active cases rose to 63,827.
Of them, 49,714 patients are in home quarantine, 7,945 admitted to low-risk quarantine centres and 5,630 hospitalised.
There are 538 patients in the intensive care unit, with 274 on ventilator support. – November 12, 2021.
