MALAYSIA reported 6,323 new Covid-19 cases against 5,337 recoveries as of noon today, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The number of new infections has outnumbered recoveries for three consecutive days now.

The active cases figures will be updated on the ministry’s CovidNow website after midnight.

The new infections recorded today are the highest in the past two-weeks. Cases in Malaysia have been on the upward trend since Sunday, when 4,343 infections were logged.

In tandem with the spike in cases, the infectivity rate in several states increased, especially in the Klang Valley regions of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

All three places now have an R-naught value above 1, where Putrajaya is leading the chart with 1.06, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1.03 and Selangor 1.03.

Other states with an R-naught value above 1 are Kelantan (1.01) and Negri Sembilan (1.00).

The country’s R-naught value is at 0.99.

Meanwhile, of the new cases recorded today, 98.5%, or 6,226, of the infections were in the asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic categories 1 and 2, while only 1.5% or 97 cases were classified under the more serious categories 3, 4 and 5.

Despite the increase in Covid-19 cases, the number of patients treated in the Intensive Care Units declined from 543 yesterday to 538 today.

Of the 538 patients, 503 were confirmed treated for Covid-19 while 35 were suspected, probable and cases under investigation.

Those requiring ventilator support also saw a small drop from 279 yesterday to 274 today. A total of 191 of the patients were confirmed Covid-19 cases while the remaining 83 were probable cases and cases under investigation.

Besides this, Noor Hisham said that the ministry traced four new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, which contributed to 46 cases.

Noor Hisham said that three clusters were linked to workplaces (40 cases) and one cluster was traced at an educational institution (six cases).

The three workplace clusters were detected in Selangor, Johor and Pahang, while the sole education cluster was traced in Kuala Lumpur.

The new clusters bring the total number of clusters in the country to 5,828. Of them, 288 are still active and 5,540 have ended. – November 11, 2021.
