THANKS to Perikatan Nasional, Malaysia can now see the light at the end of the tunnel, said Muhyiddin Yassin.

“Recovery doesn’t happen in a day or two. But thank God, we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel as a result of Perikatan Nasional’s success in managing the Covid-19 pandemic and the vaccination programme which began in February,” the former prime minister told the Dewan Rakyat today during the debate on the 2022 Budget.

The Pagoh lawmaker said the signs are encouraging as the number of new Covid-19 infections is coming down.

“Malaysia also has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world now with 95.9% of the adults fully vaccinated. Among the 12-18 years old group, 70% have been fully vaccinated while 83% have received one dose,” said Muhyiddin.

“With that, Malaysia has begun to reopen schools in stages. And so too will the social and tourism sectors,” said the Bersatu president.

On March 1, 2020, when Muhyiddin became prime minister, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia was 29 with zero deaths.

On his last day in office on August 16, the total number of cases had reached 1.4 million with 12,784 deaths. As at November 9, the total number of Covid-19 deaths is now 29,349.

On the 2022 Budget, Muhyiddin said it’s a continuation of Perikatan Nasional’s efforts and initiatives which began in March 2020.

“This includes the eight economic stimulus packages that were geared towards helping the country recover from the Covid-19 epidemic.”

Following the epidemic, the National Recovery Plan committee head said, it is now undeniable that the government must improve the healthcare system.

“When I was prime minister, I had suggested a National Healthcare System Reform Blueprint,” said Muhyiddin. – November 10, 2021.
