THE Performing Arts Centre of Penang (penangpac) will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with a slew of performances by its line-up of artistes from November 11-13, the centre said today.

Titled “A Decade with penangpac”, the three-day performance will feature mime artistes, musical performances, dance, stand-up comedies and sketches, among others, hosted by actor Karam Tabba.

“Even while its future remains uncertain and having just emerged from a devastating year, penangpac readies to welcome fully vaccinated audiences,” it said in a statement.

The 10th year anniversary performance is sponsored by the Penang chief minister’s office, Penang state exco of social development and the Tanjung Bungah assemblyman’s service centre.

Tickets are priced at RM30 for all performances and can be bought online.

It is only open to fully vaccinated individuals aged 18 and above.

The Covid-19 epidemic and the lockdown imposed by the government to curb the spread of the virus put a stop to live and stage performances, which have only now been allowed to operate as states transition to phase four of the national recovery plan.

In the last 10 years, penangpac has held almost 1,000 performances and events, entertained 25,000 audiences and has reached out to more than 50 schools through various arts programmes.

The centre said its partnership with E&O Berhad, which allows it to use the Straits Quay rent free, has also come to an end.

“This withdrawal means the end to the rent-free arrangement for penangpac in Straits Quay, which was the main reason penangpac could sustain until today,” it said.

“An additional RM1.5 million per annum will be required going forward to maintain its space there.” – November 8, 2021.
