DROPPING Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali as the Wheelchair Tennis Malaysia patron must come as a “relief” for Prime Minister Najib Razak, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“I think that Najib is now relieved when putting down my wife as the patron of the Wheelchair Tennis Malaysia and he can sleep well because it is a very important thing to make him popular,” said the Pakatan Harapan chairman in a Facebook live video on his page.
His wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali was dropped as the patron of Wheelchair Tennis Malaysia after holding the position for more than 20 years.
This comes after police questioned Dr Siti Hasmah on Friday for speaking at a women’s rally late last year.
She is currently being investigated for allegedly violating the Peaceful Assembly Act according to her lawyer under Section 9 for not notifying the police 10 days prior to holding an assembly.
“I believe that when my wife was dropped (as the patron), it would give a big win to Najib at the 14th general election,” said Dr Mahathir sarcastically.
“Because he is such an important man in Malaysia till a point where becoming a patron in any society (can be a threat to him and he has) also to influence the decision of the people in the general election.”
Dr Mahathir then echoed her wife’s statement that the couple were not intimidated by the police.
“We share our burdens, whatever that happens to me is shared with my wife and whatever happens to my wife is shared with me.
“But we are not scared of these threats,” he said. – January 29, 2018.
