PAS is not just a “passenger” in Malaysian politics but should play a key role in determining the government that will be formed after the next general election, its president Abdul Hadi Awang said today.

For that, he said, PAS should not be “confined to any closed-minded consensus within” the party.

Speaking at PAS’ 67th annual general assembly in Kuala Terengganu today, Hadi said the decision and political direction of PAS towards the 15th general election (GE15) will be determined by the majlis syura ulama and the PAS central committee.

“The mandate is handed over to the majlis syura ulama and PAS Pusat (central) to make decisions in matters related to law, policy and strategy to face the election and all possibilities after the election, to ensure that Islam continues to lead,” he said.

The PAS annual convention will most likely be the last before GE15 is held next year. – November 6, 2021.
