TWO out of the eight DAP candidates in the Malacca elections will be new faces, said party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

Muhamad Danish Zainudin, 25, and Leng Chau Yen, 37, will contest the Pengkalan Batu and Bandar Hilir seats, respectively.

Lim announced the candidates at an online press conference at DAP headquarters in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, today.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) has allocated 11 seats for PKR, nine for Amanah and eight for DAP in the Malacca elections. The state assembly has 28 seats.

All PH candidates will contest under the coalition logo.

Lim said: “DAP will field Danish in Pengkalan Batu (N15), while Leng will contest in Bandar Hilir (N22).”

Other party candidates are Saminathan Ganesan (Gadek-N07), Kerk Chee Yee (Ayer Keroh-N16), Allex Seah (Kesidang-N19), Low Chee Leong (Kota Laksamana-N20), Damian Yeo (Duyong-N21) and Tey Kok Kiew (Bemban-N24) – all incumbents except for Tey.

Danish joined DAP in 2017 and is Malacca DAP Youth secretary.

The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia corporate administration graduate is political secretary to Yeo, who is also Malacca DAP secretary.

He will be replacing Pengkalan Batu rep Norhizam Hassan Baktee, who was sacked after supporting Perikatan Nasional to topple PH in Malacca last year.

Norhizam is also one of four assemblymen who withdrew support for Chief Minister Sulaiman Mohd Ali, causing the state government to collapse last month.

Leng, 37, has been political secretary to Malacca DAP chairman and Bandar Hilir assemblyman Tey since 2013. She was also special officer to the latter when he was state executive councillor from 2018 to 2020.

The graphic design graduate is currently Malacca DAP publicity secretary.

Leng is being fielded in her boss’ seat, while Tey is moved to Bemban. This means DAP has dropped incumbent Dr Wong Fort Pin to make way for Tey. – November 5, 2021.
