Malaysia posts 5,713 new Covid cases

MALAYSIA reported 5,713 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, an increase from the 5,291 cases yesterday, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The number of reported coronavirus infections now stands at about 2.4 million, including the new cases today.

The country has been reporting fewer than 6,000 cases for five consecutive days.

Noor Hisham said 98.4% of the new cases today are in Categories 1 and 2, while the rest are in Categories 3, 4 and 5.

The nation celebrates 5,865 recoveries today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2.3 million. A total of 555 patients are in intensive care units, of which 280 require respiratory assistance.

Case breakdown according to states will be uploaded onto the CovidNow portal after midnight.

Malaysia recorded a 0.94 R-naught for the past seven days, and a 6% dip in hospitalisation rate with 68% of beds occupied in the same period.

Five new Covid-19 clusters have been identified today, namely in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, Negri Sembilan and Johor.

As of yesterday, 95.7% of the adult population (22.4 million individuals) are fully vaccinated in the country, while 97.8% have received at least one vaccine dose.

A total of 114,573 vaccine doses were dispensed yesterday, of which 8,185 are first doses, 42,306 second doses and 64,082 booster shots.

The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme launched in February has now dispensed 50.4 million vaccine doses, including the ones yesterday.

A total of 69.8% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 (2.19 million individuals) are fully vaccinated, while 83.3% have received at least one vaccine dose. – November 4, 2021.
