NATIONAL Unity Minister Halimah Mohamed Sadique must explain to Parliament how millions in Malaysian Indian Transformational Unit (Mitra) funds went missing, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

“Who are the people in these NGOs (who have been given millions)?” asked the Kulim Bandar Baharu MP during the Supply Bill 2022 debate in the Dewan Rakyat today.

“Although not complete, I have some names of the people involved and they include politicians who are still holding office. But I don’t want to make any allegations.

“Since it is under the National Unity Ministry, the minister should explain to Parliament.”

The PKR secretary-general said it is unconscionable that such funds, which are meant for the hardcore poor, are diverted.

“As lawmakers, we all face the voters all the time and we know which are the races who need this help the most. So, why is this money (which is given by the government) being diverted?” he asked.

He said the government cannot deny that there is wrongdoing as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has already begun its probe and detained 16 people.

It was reported earlier that 16 company directors, aged between 24 and 68, had been detained to assist with the investigation that involves the RM100 million fund meant for hardcore poor Indians. – November 1, 2021.
