4,979 new Covid-19 cases, lowest since May 4

MALAYSIA registered 4,979 fresh Covid-19 infections as of noon, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today, the lowest since May 4, when 3,120 cases were reported.

The total number of reported infections now stands at about 2.4 million, including the new ones today.

Of the new cases, only 85 (1.7%) are in Categories 3, 4 and 5, while the remaining 4,894 (98.3%) are in Categories 1 and 2.

Malaysia recorded 6,127 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to about 2.3 million. A total of 562 patients are in intensive care units, with 326 requiring respiratory aid.

Noor Hisham said six new clusters have been identified – two involve the community, two involve higher educational institutions, one involves a worksite and the last involves an educational institution.

The country has recorded a 0.95 R-naught for the past seven days, and a 13% dip in hospitalisation rate with 64% of beds occupied in the same period.
