MALAYSIA logged 6,637 Covid-19 recoveries against 6,377 infections as of noon today, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
He said with today’s recoveries, more than 2.3 million people have recovered from Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, 564 patients are currently in intensive care units and, of that number, 500 are Covid-19 positive, while the remaining are suspected of being positive.
Out of the 564 patients, 294 of them require respiratory support, of which 207 tested positive for the virus.
Noor Hisham said from today’s infections, 6,276 cases were in categories 1 (asymptomatic) and 2 (mildly symptomatic), while 101 were in the more severe categories.
He also reported eight new clusters. There have been 5,752 clusters nationwide, of which 474 are still active.
Noor Hisham also said health authorities have identified 261 cases involving variants of concern (VOC).
He said laboratory work from several local scientific institutes has identified 259 cases of the Delta variant and two cases of the Beta variant.
Noor Hisham said this brings the cumulative number of cases infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus categorised as VOC and Variant of Interest (VOI) to 2,645 cases. Of the total detected, 2,625 cases were VOC while 20 cases were VOI.
To date, for VOC, 2,385 infections involve the Delta variant, Beta (226), and Alpha (14).
For VOI, thirteen cases involved the Theta variant, Kappa variant (4) and Eta variant (3). – October 28, 2021.
