BARISAN Nasional (BN) will not work with Bersatu in the upcoming Malacca state elections, respecting the decision made in the last Umno general assembly, the coalition’s chairman, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said today.
He said Umno will not be “stabbed in the back” in Malacca like what happened at the Sabah state elections last year.
“We will not be manipulated and allowed to be taken for a ride again. We must respect the decision made at the Umno general assembly,” he said.
“I’m not going to allow the snake who bit us in the Sabah elections to bite us again a second time.
“We will not cooperate with Bersatu in the Malacca polls,” he said at the launch of BN’s election machinery for the state elections.
Zahid, who is also Umno president, said the decision not to work with Bersatu is not his but that of the grassroots, which he said must be respected.
“As Umno president, I must accept and respect the voice of the grassroots,” he said.
He also said they will propose to change the state’s constitution should BN win in Malacca with a two-thirds majority.
“We will push for an amendment of the state constitution to create five appointed assemblymen’s posts,” he added. – October 27, 2021.
