Malaysia logs 6,148 new Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA logged 6,148 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, taking the cumulative total infections in the country to 2.45 million health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

According to Noor Hisham, 98.4% or 6,047 of these cases were in the less severe asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic categories of 1 and 2.

Only 1.6% or 101 cases were in the more serious categories of 3, 4, or 5.

Noor Hisham said 21 cases were imported, while the remaining were local transmissions.

The breakdown of cases by state will be uploaded by the ministry on its CovidNow website at midnight.

Meanwhile, there were 563 patients in intensive care units, 35 fewer than yesterday, with 292 requiring respiratory support.

Noor Hisham said 495 are confirmed Covid-19 cases, while the remaining 68 are suspected, subject to investigation.

Noor Hisham said the ministry traced nine new Covid-19 clusters today, which accounted for 227 cases, six were linked to workplaces (184 cases), one traced to the community (12 cases), one involved high-risk groups (24 cases) and finally a sole education cluster (7 cases).

Kuala Lumpur reported four of the new clusters, Selangor reported two and there was one in Kedah.

Meanwhile, the community cluster was registered in Kelantan and the high-risk group cluster was traced in Perak.
