THE number of Covid-19 recoveries continued to outnumber new infections as Malaysia logged 7,414 recoveries against 4,782 new cases, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

This will be the 39th straight day where more people have recuperated from the virus compared with the number of new infections.

This will very likely bring down the number of active cases in the country, with the figures updated after midnight by the health ministry in its CovidNow website.

The cumulative recovery figure is now 2,334,783.

Meanwhile, the 4,782 new coronavirus cases today are the lowest since June 22.

Of the new infections, Noor Hisham said 98% or 4,686 cases detected today were in the less severe asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic categories of 1 and 2.

The remaining 2% or 96 cases were in the more serious stages of 3, 4 and 5.

Noor Hisham said the number of patients treated in intensive care units increased slightly to 607 from 601 yesterday.

Of the number, 514 are confirmed Covid-19 cases while the remaining 93 are suspected cases and cases under investigation.

There are 300 patients on ventilator support, of which 217 are Covid-19 cases with the rest being suspected and probable cases.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said the ministry identified six new Covid-19 clusters as of noon today, which accounted for 73 cases.

Of the new clusters, three were linked to workplaces (31 cases), one traced to the community (15 cases) and two involved education sectors (27 cases).

Johor and Kedah reported two clusters each, while Selangor and Kelantan had one each.

These bring the total number of clusters in the country to 5,728. Of them, 5,200 have ended and 528 are still active. – October 25, 2021.
