THE Klang Valley comprising Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya accounted for 1,270 of the 5,666 new Covid-19 cases reported yesterday.
According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, Selangor logged 1,078 cases, Kuala Lumpur (162) and Putrajaya (30).
Sarawak reported 754 cases, followed by Johor with 566 cases.
Other states and territories reporting new cases were Sabah (502), Kelantan (469), Kedah (421), Perak (349), Penang (279), Terengganu (277), Malacca (262), Pahang (252), Negri Sembilan (218), Perlis (40) and Labuan (7).
Most of the new infections were in the less severe categories of 1 and 2, which do not require hospital admission.
Among yesterday’s 5,666 new infections, only 1,301 cases were admitted to hospitals.
In the past seven days, hospital admissions declined by 12%. The seven-day average admission stood at 1,445 with bed utilisation at 65%.
Although Selangor reported the most cases yesterday, it also reported a 23% decline in hospital admissions over the last seven days.
On an average, over the past week, Selangor recorded 296 hospital admissions while bed utilisation stood at 62%.
Penang, which logged 279 cases yesterday, reported the biggest hike in hospital admissions over the past seven days at 25%. On a seven-day average, the state reported 63 admissions, with a bed take-up rate of 66%.
Active cases in the country continued to decline, to 75,947 with 6,978 recoveries.
Among the active cases, 59,129 patients were in home quarantine;10,274 in low-risk quarantine centres; and 5,941 were hospitalised.
Patients in the intensive care units also dropped to 603, of which 300 were on ventilator support. – October 25, 2021.
