PAKATAN Harapan president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said Dr Mahathir Mohamad joined the opposition to correct the flaws in the country’s political system.

“Dr Mahathir has been the prime minister for 22 years. So when he came (to the opposition), he said that the system is flawed.

“He is the best guy to right the flaws. It’s not just about a change of prime minister, it’s about institutional reforms,” Dr Wan Azizah, popularly known as Kak Wan, told reporters after the Pahang PH convention in Kuantan today.

She was asked how does PH plan to promote Dr Mahathir, who was nominated as the coalition’s designated prime minister should PH win the 14th general election.

“If you want to talk about feelings, we all have feelings. But we need to move on. It’s for the country’s sake. It’s not just about feelings,” said Dr Wan Azizah, referring to Dr Mahathir’s sacking of Anwar as his deputy prime minister in 1998 over corruption and sodomy charges.

Pahang PH president Fauzi Abdul Rahman added that Dr Mahathir is the best person to lead the coalition’s agenda to reform the country due to his political experience and connections.

“He knows every department. He has got connections everywhere, in the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

“If you want to change, you must know what you want to change,” said the Indera Mahkota MP.

Fauzi was a deputy minister when Mahathir sacked Anwar from the cabinet in 1998.

Fauzi, who is the son of former education minister Abdul Rahman Talib, came out of retirement to join PKR in 2008.
