MALAYSIANS, particularly politicians, should continue to wear masks in public, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin
In an Instagram post, Khairy said he noticed many of his colleagues going mask-less at meetings.
He also said many politicians tended to have comorbidities which would mean greater suffering if they got infected with Covid-19.
“More and more of my colleagues are being seen in photos at meetings without masks on.
“Many politicians have diabetes, hypertension and are probably obese.
“If you get Covid-19, even with the vaccine, it’s not going to be fun and games,” he said.
Khairy added that masking must continue despite vaccination , citing the United Kingdom as an example, where despite its high vaccination rate, the country is currently battling another Covid-19 outbreak.
“(This is in part) because of their obstinate refusal to mask up. Don’t be the UK. Just mask up,” he said.
Despite the fact that over 68% of the population in the UK have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, there were 7,521 patients hospitalised with the virus as of October 20, up from triple digits in May.
Meanwhile, in Malaysia, a total 4,016 fully vaccinated people have been infected with the coronavirus over the past seven days.
Currently, all are required to don a mask outside their homes except when exercising or dining in.
Failure to do so can result in a RM1,500 fine. – October 23, 2021.
