THE organisers of a forum are accusing the Universiti Malaya Alumni Association (PAUM) of not having the courtesy to inform them their booking for its premises had been cancelled at the last minute.

Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim, representing the G25 group of prominent retired Malay civil servants, said they were informed by their caterer 12 days before the forum that their booking had been cancelled.

“But now, with all of this happening, it shows that we are doing something right,” she told The Malaysian Insight.

The forum on “Reforms for a Progressive Malaysia” is going on today at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam.

The G25 group is playing an active role in civil society advocating moderation in Islam in accordance with Islamic principles.

She said the forum was supposed to be held in the first week on December last year, with the venue booked with PAUM in June.

“Our first forum was held back at PAUM in 2015, and we paid all our bills on time. We weren’t a registered entity back then, too.

“Last Monday the president of PAUM sent a letter to our caterer, to say that they are cancelling our event.

“So, the letter wasn’t to G25, it was to our caterer that got in touch with us. To this day we haven’t got a letter of apology from PAUM,” she said.

She said PAUM had told the caterer they were double booked, so they had to give in to a person who was having a wedding there.

Noor Azimah said the caterer told them PAUM had complained about their flyer for the event, as it was not clear that G25 was the organiser.

“So we amended it and submitted it back, and they haven’t responded.

“They also said as G25 was an unregistered entity, that we may be a legal liability.” – January 27, 2018.
