Klang Valley records 1,037 new Covid-19 cases

THE Klang Valley, which comprises Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, accounted for 1,037 of the 5,434 Covid-19 cases logged yesterday.

Selangor accounted for 800 of the infections. This is the first time since September 27 that the most populous state reported fewer than 1,000 cases, the CovidNow website shows.

The state has also recorded 700,127 cases since the pandemic began.

Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur recorded 223 cases and Putrajaya, 14.

Johor recorded the second highest number of cases, at 698, followed by Sarawak (694) and Kelantan (643).

Other states and territories that reported new cases are Sabah (497), Perak (363), Kedah (324), Malacca (211), Negri Sembilan (151), Pahang (253), Perlis (18), Penang (232), Terengganu (311) and Labuan (2).

Malaysia’s active cases continue to drop below the 100,000 mark to 89,173.

Of these, 679 patients were treated in intensive care units with 347 of them on ventilator support.

Meanwhile, 68,612 patients were in home quarantine, 12,935 in low-risk quarantine centres and 6,947 were hospitalised.

Total recoveries number 2.27 million, 8,435 of which were reported yesterday. – October 19, 2021.
