Health Ministry reports 6,145 new Covid-19 cases, lowest since July 4

Malaysia recorded 6,145 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the lowest since July 4, when 10,915 cases were logged. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, October 17, 2021.

MALAYSIA reported 6,145 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. 

The daily cases recorded today are the lowest in the past 104 days – 6,045 infections were reported on July 4.

The country has consistently reported fewer than 10,000 daily cases for the past 15 days. There were 10,915 cases recorded on October 2.

The new infections today brought the cumulative cases since the onset of the pandemic to 2,390,687. 

The breakdown of cases by state will be updated on the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website after midnight tonight.

Meanwhile, a total of 22,146,626 people or 67.8% of the general population in Malaysia have now been fully inoculated under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

With the latest round of vaccination jabs given, about 24.71 million people or 75.7% of the population have now received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, about 1.73 million or 55.1% of adolescents in the age group between 12 and 17 have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 716,332 or 22.8% have been fully vaccinated.

As for the adults, 21.43 million individuals or 91.5% of grown-ups are now fully dosed.

Malaysia has now administered 46,761,751 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines since the programme began on February 24. – October 17, 2021.
