Klang Valley reports 2,040 Covid-19 cases

THE Klang Valley, which comprises Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, accounted for a combined 2,040 or 27.2% of the 7,509 Covid-19 cases logged yesterday. 

Infections in Selangor rose to its highest in more than a week at 1,744. The previous time the most populous state reported more cases was on October 8 with 1,796. 

Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya logged 259 and 37 cases respectively.

The only other state to report four-digit cases was Sarawak with 1,055. 

Other states and territories that reported new cases yesterday were Johor with 753 cases, Kelantan (688), Sabah (639), Penang (411), Kedah (403), Terengganu (383), Perak (307), Pahang (301), Malacca (261), Negri Sembilan (236), Perlis (30) and Labuan (2). 

On overall cases, Selangor is just 1,700 shy of reaching the 700,000 mark. Currently, the figure stands at 698,291. 

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s active cases further dipped to 95,395 after the ministry reported 9,531 recoveries and 88 Covid-19 fatalities. 

The total recoveries in the country now stand at 2.26 million while the death toll is at 27,858. 

Of those active cases, 73,507 or 77.1% patients are under home quarantine, 14,401 (15.1%) are in low-risk quarantine centres and 6,793 (7.1%) in hospitals. 

A total of 694 patients were treated in the intensive care unit for Covid-19, with 344 of them requiring respiratory support. – October 17, 2021.
