88 Covid-19 deaths reported, all backlog cases

MALAYSIA reported 88 deaths related to Covid-19 as of midnight, raising the toll to 27,858, the Health Ministry said.

According to the ministry’s GitHub raw data depository, at the time of reporting, none of the deaths had occurred yesterday, meaning all fatalities were backlog cases.

Meanwhile, the 88 deaths include 26 victims who were declared dead upon arrival (DOA). 

The daily death figures is the sum total of the number of reported deaths on the day plus cases just confirmed by the health authorities to be due to Covid-19 after investigation. 

As for the number of deaths by state, Johor saw a huge leap in the figures of fatalities reported, with almost half of them reported to be DOA. The previous day, there were only six deaths recorded in the state.

The southern state reported 33 fatalities, with 15 DOA.

Coming behind Johor were the two East Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah, which reported 14 and 12 deaths respectively. 

Other states and territories reporting deaths were Penang (8), Negri Sembilan and Perak (4 each), Malacca (3), Kedah, Perlis, Selangor and Terengganu (2 each), Pahang and Kuala Lumpur (1 each).

There were no coronavirus related deaths in Kelantan, Labuan and Putrajaya.

The CovidNow website showed a national average of 31.5 deaths per 1 million people in the last two weeks. Among the states and federal territories, Perlis had the highest average of 82.4 deaths per population of one million, followed by Sarawak (63.6) and Penang (61.5). – October 17, 2021.
