POLICE have opened two investigation papers against anti-vaccine groups, suspected of spreading false information that threatens public health, Bukit Aman CID chief Abd Jalil Hassan said today.

In a statement, Jalil said that an investigation has started after a report was lodged in Perak where a woman linked the death of two students to vaccination in a video clip uploaded to social media.

The second investigation is based on a report against a Twitter user who alleged the death of 41 teachers were due to Covid-19 jabs.

“For the first report in Ipoh, we are probing the matter under Section 505(b) for making a statement with intent to cause, or is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public or to any section of the public and Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentionally insulting with the intent to breach the peace.

“For the second report involving a Twitter user @khalid, the case in investigated under Section 500 for defamation, Section 505 (c) for intent to incite or any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community of persons, as well as under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misusing network facilities,” he said.

A 31-second video clip on the alleged list went viral on social media.

It was reported yesterday that the Health Ministry has lodged several police reports against anti-vaccine groups, again accused of spreading false information that threatens public health.

Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said in a tweet he hoped that follow-up action, including investigation and prosecution, could be expedited.

“These groups continue to spread false news, threatening public health, and are annoying,” Khairy said, while also including a Twitter link shared by Dr Sakinah Sulong. – October 16, 2021.
