89 new Covid-19 deaths reported

MALAYSIA recorded 89 deaths as of midnight, all of which were backlog cases, meaning no deaths occurred yesterday, the Health Ministry reported. 

Data from the ministry’s Git.hub raw data repository showed that 19 of the fatalities were classified as dead on arrival.

The daily death figure is the sum total of the number of reported deaths on the day plus cases just confirmed by the health authorities to be due to Covid-19 after investigation.

The cumulative Covid-19 death toll in Malaysia now stands at 27,770.

Sarawak recorded the highest with 15 deaths, followed by Kelantan (14) and Perak (13). 

Other states and federal territories recording deaths were Johor (6), Kedah (3), Negri Sembilan (2), Pahang (8), Perlis (3), Penang (9), Sabah (5), Selangor (7) and Kuala Lumpur (4). 

Malacca, Terengganu, Labuan and Putrajaya did not report any deaths. 

Malaysia’s active cases also dropped below the 100,000 mark to 97,505. 

Of these, 703 patients were treated in intensive care units, with 366 of them on ventilator support.

Meanwhile, 75,068 patients were in home quarantine, 14,537 in low-risk quarantine centres and 7,197 hospitalised.

Total recoveries number 2.25 million, 11,413 of which were reported yesterday. – October 16, 2021.
