THE Health Ministry reported 93 Covid-19 deaths yesterday, all of which were backlog cases, meaning there were no fatalities within the past 24 hours.
According to data from the ministry’s Git.hub raw data repository, 16 of the reported cases were pronounced dead on arrival.
The ministry derives the daily figure from the sum total of the number of reported deaths on a given day, including backlog cases only just confirmed by the health authorities after completing their clinical investigations.
With the new fatalities, the cumulative Covid-19 death toll in Malaysia is 27,422.
Penang recorded 26 deaths, the highest number of fatalities by state, followed by Sarawak with 14.
Other states and federal territories recording deaths were, Johor (8), Kuala Lumpur (7), Sabah (6), Kedah, Kelantan and Pahang (5), Malacca, Selangor and Perak (4), Negri Sembilan and Perlis (2), and Terengganu (1).
Labuan and Putrajaya did not report any new deaths.
There were 112,379 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia as of last night. Of these, 756 patients were receiving treatment in intensive care units with 397 requiring a ventilator.
Meanwhile, 88,645 patients in home quarantine, 15,356 were admitted to low-risk quarantine centres, and 7,622 were in hospital.
Some 10,833 people recovered from the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, with 2,206,502 recoveries since the onset of the pandemic. – October 12, 2021.
