REPORTS claiming that 120 members from Bersatu’s Putrajaya division have quit the party last week are not true, its treasurer Adi Ikmal Isa said.
In fact, the party’s Federal Territory youth chief told The Malaysian Insight that Bersatu will be opening another five new branches in Putrajaya next month.
“If there is a problem here (Putrajaya), we will not be opening five new branches. We already have 12 existing branches and five more are opening soon, making a total of 17 branches alone in Putrajaya.
“So we are solid. In fact, we had a meeting last night. Party is functioning well. We hold meetings regularly,” said Adi.
Last week, Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin said the party was not affected with former Putrajaya Bersatu chief Erwan Mohd Tahir’s move to rejoin Umno.
Hamzah said the Putrajaya division leadership and grassroots remain solid despite Erwan’s resignation from the party, adding that division deputy chief Fathul Azam Hashim had been discharging the duties as division head.
Adi said Erwan had resigned in October 2020 after losing the contest for the vice-president’s post in the party elections.
He also dismissed rumours that 120 Bersatu members in Putrajaya had left the party.
“I have the data of every Bersatu member here. Only seven of them quit the party. When we cross-checked, they told us that they didn’t even know their names were registered in Umno.
“The other 113 names are not members of Bersatu in Putrajaya. They are members from other divisions,” Adi clarified.
Putrajaya division chief Fathul Azam Hashim echoed Adi’s sentiment, saying the party is progressing well.
He affirmed that the leadership and the grassroot members are united.
“We are very much active here. There are so many events that we have organised. The party is functioning.
“If Umno wants to say that we are in trouble, that is up to them,” he added. – October 11, 2021.
