MORE people are recovering from Covid-19 than getting infected, as Malaysia reported 10,959 recoveries against 7,373 new cases today, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

This would be the 24th straight day that the number of recoveries has outpaced new infections.

Also, the number of new infections reported today is the lowest in some three months, with the previous low reported on July 7 with 7,097 cases.

The breakdown of cases by state will now be uploaded on the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website after midnight. This will be the practice moving forward.

Noor Hisham said that of the new cases, 7,240 people, or 98.25% of the cases, were in the less severe asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic categories 1 and 2.

Only 133 people, or 1.8% of the cases, were in the more serious categories 3, 4 and 5.

The health DG said that 762 patients are seeking treatment in the intensive care units (ICU), where 702 of them were confirmed coronavirus cases and 60 were suspected cases and cases under investigation.

A total of 410 patients were on ventilator support, of which 293 were confirmed Covid-19 cases and the remaining 117 suspected, probable and cases under investigation.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said that the ministry detected eight new Covid-19 clusters today, which accounted for a total of 107 cases.

Of the eight new clusters, five were traced to the community (52 cases), one linked to the workplace (26 cases), one involved high-risk groups (20 cases) and one being a religious cluster (nine cases).

Four of the five community clusters were traced in Kelantan and the others in Pahang.

The sole workplace cluster was reported in Kedah, while Johor reported the high-risk group and religious clusters.

These clusters brought the total number of clusters in the country to 5,588, of which 810 are still active and 4,778 have ended. – October 10, 2021.
