FULLY vaccinated Malaysians will be allowed to travel inter-state without having to apply for permission from the authorities effective tomorrow, Ismail Sabri Yaakob said. 

“According to the Health Ministry, the fully vaccinated adult population has already reached 90%. The data will be updated on the CovidNow website tonight,” the prime minister said in a special televised message today.

He said that Malaysians can now return to their hometowns to visit their families or for tourism.

Although it is not mandatory, Ismail urged Malaysians to self-test before going back.

“I would also like to advise those who have colds, coughs or fever to avoid going back,” he said.

He said that although there will be no more roadblocks, authorities will still conduct random checks at rest stops or anywhere else to ensure everyone complies with standard operating procedure such as masking or to check whether they are fully vaccinated. 

He said that interstate travel is restricted to those who are fully inoculated. 

The Bera MP said Malaysians cannot travel to enhanced movement-control order areas. 

“According to MOH, vaccination has reduced critical care admissions by 83% and lowered the death rate by 88%. This shows that vaccination works and I urge those who have yet to get jabbed to do so,” he said. 

When asked if the government will make self-testing before interstate travel mandatory, Ismail said no.

“But we have to be responsible enough to do self-tests before travelling and ensure that our parents and families back home are fully vaccinated. 

“I hope those planning to travel back to their hometowns to either take a RTK-Antigen or RT-PCR test before going home,” said the Umno vice president. – October 10, 2021.
