MALAYSIA is just 0.6% shy of the 90% adult vaccination mark as about 20.92 million or 89.4% of adults are now fully inoculated against Covid-19.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 174,829 vaccine shots were administered yesterday as part of the national Covid-19 immunisation programme.

Of that number, 74,199 were first doses, while 100,621 were second shots.

A total of 45,379,299 doses of vaccines have been administered since the programme kickstarted on February 24 this year.

Malaysia could achieve its 90% Covid-19 adult vaccination milestone by Monday at the current rate at which jabs are administered daily.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said interstate travel would be allowed when 90% of the adult population is fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, 70.4%, or about 2 million adolescents between the age of 12 and 17, have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 5.6% or 177,029 are fully vaccinated.

The ministry’s CovidNow website tracker projected that 80% of adolescents would be fully vaccinated by November 2.

Children in this age group are receiving the Pfizer and Sinovac vaccines.

Meanwhile, taking the vaccination rate for the country’s total population, 74.6% of the general population have been partially vaccinated and 64.6% fully vaccinated.

The Klang Valley has the highest vaccination rate, with 82.1% of its general population and 112% of its adult population inoculated.

When an area records a vaccination rate of more than 100%, it means that the changes in the population size have yet to be accounted for by the Statistics Department since the last census was conducted. This also includes undocumented residents.

Sabah has the lowest vaccination rate. It is the only state to have vaccinated fewer than 70% of its adult population, at 64.1%. Only 46.5% of its general population have been inoculated. – October 9, 2021.
