THE number of daily Covid-19 recoveries continues to surpass that of new cases, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, as Malaysia reported 12,724 recoveries against 9,751 infections today.
This is the 22nd straight day that the nation has reported more recoveries than cases.
Noor Hisham said only 2.1% (206) of the fresh infections today are in Categories 3, 4 and 5, while the remaining 97.9% are in Categories 1 and 2 – asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.
He said this will reduce the number of active cases in the country, but the figures will be updated on the CovidNow website only at midnight.
There is also an improvement in the usage of intensive care units (ICUs), as daily cases continue to drop.
A total of 792 patients are reportedly in ICUs today, of which 715 are Covid-19 cases, while 77 are suspected cases and under investigation.
The number of patients needing ventilators has also dipped, with only 386 requiring respiratory support – of which 302 are Covid-19 cases, while 84 are suspected cases and under investigation.
Yesterday, 827 patients were admitted to ICUs and 445 on ventilator support.
Noor Hisham said the ministry detected 10 new Covid-19 clusters as of noon today, which accounted for 187 cases.
Of the new clusters, six involved workplaces (109 cases), two involved the community (62 cases), one involved a high-risk group (10 cases) and another involved the education sector (six cases).
Pahang, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur reported two new clusters each, while Perak, Kelantan, Malacca and Johor reported one each.
The total number of clusters in the country now stands at 5,570, including the new ones today. Of this, 874 are still active, while 4,696 have ended. – October 8, 2021.
