9,751 new Covid-19 cases, Selangor claims 1,796

MALAYSIA recorded 9,751 fresh Covid-19 infections as of noon today, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, its sixth straight day of reporting fewer than 10,000 cases a day.

The coronavirus caseload in the country now stands at 2,323,478, including the new cases today.

After 14 days, Selangor once again claimed the top spot as the state with the highest number of daily infections with 1,796 cases. Sarawak came in second with 1,339 cases, while Kelantan came in third with 1,052 cases.

The Klang Valley, comprising Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (313) and Putrajaya (45), accounted for 2,154 (22.1%) infections today.

Other states and territories reporting new cases are Johor (864), Sabah (705), Terengganu (650), Perak (643), Penang (632), Kedah (578), Pahang (551), Malacca (244), Negri Sembilan (243), Perlis (94) and Labuan (2).

On cumulative cases by state, Selangor leads with 687,966 infections, followed by Sarawak (222,381) and Sabah (204,193).

The Health Ministry said 89.1% of adults are now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, with 196,647 doses administered under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme yesterday.

Of the 196,647 doses, 108,092 were first doses, while 88,555, second doses.

A total of 45,204,479 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered under the programme since it started on February 24. – October 8, 2021.
