Kor Ming urges Pakatan to decide on logo – and quickly

THE Pakatan Harapan presidential council must quickly decide which logo the opposition coalition will use in the general election, said Nga Kor Ming.

While there is no correct answer to the problem, the Teluk Intan lawmaker said a decision nevertheless must be reached soon.

“It’s an issue which should be deliberated and a decision should be made. There is no perfect decision but the worst decision is no decision,” Nga told The Malaysian Insight.

“In order for the ground to be ready, I feel it is important the presidential council should decide as soon as possible so that all parties can let the dust settle and get ready for the real battle.”

The logo is a contentious issue as factions in PKR, a member of the PH coalition, are demanding that the party logo be used instead in the election.

PKR’s Federal Territory and Pahang chapters had urged for the party logo and flag instead of the PH one.

Pakatan youth leader Howard Lee had said the coalition’s presidential council had decided to use the PH logo and all the parties in the coalition must conform.

This drew an indignant response from PKR youth secretary Syukri Razab, who said Lee should wait for PH to make an official announcement on the matter.

Nga said while there were those who would argue that the opposition had won the last election on the PKR logo, that should not stop PH from using its own now.

“There is no absolute answer as to which is the best logo. Based on various studies on the ground, some prefer Keadilan based on the argument that we won, therefore why not repeat the same?” he said, referring to PKR by its other name.

“If it’s a coalition, we have to look at coalition politics; to have a common logo that is accepted by all races, it is the duty of all PH leaders to promote the PH logo if we decide to use it – just like the scales have been used by Barisan Nasional for 60 years.

“We can’t say that this logo is new therefore we should not adopt it;  it is the duty of everyone to protect it, to make it the ultimate choice of all Malaysians.” – October 8, 2021
