THE Health Ministry reported 117 Covid-19 fatalities as of midnight yesterday, a slight increase from the previous 76 deaths a day before.
ACCORDING to the ministry’s GitHub data repository, 16 cases were declared dead on arrival (DOA). The death toll now stands at 26,876.
Meanwhile, only three of the deaths occurred yesterday. The remaining 114 were backlog cases that were previously unreported. These would be backtracked to the date of death.
The daily figure is the sum total of the deaths that occur on the day plus backlog reports of deaths, or deaths that have just been confirmed by the health authorities to be due to Covid-19 upon completion of investigation.
Due to this, daily death numbers could vary from the actual number of deaths that have occurred on the day of the report, while the backlog is being cleared.
The data also showed that two of the 117 victims – one in Pahang and the other in Perak – had a vaccination history, where both had received one shot.
Of the deaths, Sarawak topped the list with 21 deaths, of which three were DOA.
Meanwhile, Johor reported the second highest with 19 deaths, with one DOA.
Other states and territories that reported new deaths are Selangor and Perak (14), Sabah and Kelantan (11), Kedah (eight), Terengganu (five), Kuala Lumpur and Pahang (four), Malacca (two), and Penang and Negri Sembilan (one).
According to the data on the CovidNow website, there are 142,869 active Covid-19 cases.
Some 116,748 patients or 81.7% are in home quarantine, 16,862 (11.8%) at low-risk quarantine centres and 8,383 (5.9%) in hospitals.
Of those admitted to hospitals, 851 are in intensive care units, with 395 requiring respiratory support. – October 6, 2021.
