Malaysia’s Covid trend stays downwards with 8,075 new cases

MALAYSIA has reported low Covid-19 fresh cases for the second day in a row, with 8,075 infections over the last 24 hours, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

Yesterday, the Health Ministry had announced that cases had dipped below five digits to 9,066 cases. Today’s figure brought the cumulative number of cases to 2,285,640.

Only two states recorded four-figure new cases today – Sarawak and Kelantan – with 1,189 and 1,020 infections respectively. The state with the third-highest number of cases is Penang, with 853 infections.

Other states and territories that reported new Covid-19 cases today are Sabah (677), Kuala Lumpur (151 cases), Kedah (628), Negri Sembilan (108), Perak (548), Malacca (219), Pahang (522), Terengganu (636), Putrajaya (19), and Perlis (36).

The region with the lowest case count is Labuan with only two cases.

Malaysia is almost reaching a 90% vaccination rate, with 87.6% of the adult population being fully inoculated as of yesterday.

The government has said it will allow the reopening of interstate borders, as well as international borders, after the country vaccinates 90% of its adult population.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 206,574 vaccine doses have been administered under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme as of yesterday, of which 96,024 are first doses and 110,550 second doses.

A total of 44,352,079 doses have been administered under the programme since it started on February 24. – October 4, 2021.
