Covid-19 cases dip to 4 digits for first time in 82 days

AFTER almost three months of recording five-figure new Covid-19 cases a day, Malaysia reported 9,066 fresh infections today, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The last time the nation reported such a sum was on July 12 – some 82 days ago – with 8,574 cases.

Only two states recorded four-figure new cases today – Sarawak and Selangor, with 1,418 and 1,000 infections, respectively. The state with the third-highest number of cases is Johor, with 981.

The Klang Valley, comprising Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (201) and Putrajaya (24) accounted for 1,225 cases, or 13.51%, of the total infections reported in the past 24 hours.

Terengganu claimed 827 cases, Kelantan (796), Sabah (767), Kedah (670), Perak (669), Pahang (630), Penang (620), Malacca (206), Negri Sembilan (191) and Perlis (66).

Labuan, which is under Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan, did not report any fresh infection.

Selangor tops the overall Covid-19 cases by state with 681,616 infections, followed by Sarawak (215,576) and Sabah (200,396).

The Health Ministry also announced that 20.41 million adults, or 87.2%, are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in Malaysia.

According to the ministry’s CovidNow website, 211,517 vaccine doses have been administered under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme yesterday, of which 89,695 are first doses and 121,822, second doses.

A total of 44,145,505 doses have been administered under the programme since it started on February 24. – October 3, 2021.
