PUTRAJAYA will likely relax restrictions on overseas travel in December, once 90% of adults in the country have been fully vaccinated, said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“Yes, December is possible. It is still too early at the moment. We will open the state borders first before allowing international travel,” he was quoted as saying by Mingguan Malaysia.
Ismail Sabri said the government will also no longer impose the MyTravelPass requirement for international travel.
“We no longer need to register for a MyTravelPass to leave the country, but travellers are still subjected to quarantine,” he told a group of senior media editors at Parliament last Thursday
The government introduced the pass – a special permit to travel abroad – due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which requires anyone wanting to go overseas to apply via immigration authorities.
As of midnight last night, 87.2% of the adult population are fully vaccinated.
Ismail Sabri said he has asked Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad to discuss with Singapore on cross-border movements between the two countries, especially for Malaysians working in the republic.
Malaysia and Singapore had previously agreed to implement a reciprocal cross-border green route in August last year. However, Singapore postponed the move from February 1, followed by Malaysia on May 13. – October 3, 2021.
