Covid-19 ICU cases drop to 888

HOSPITALS continue to report a reduction in Covid-19 patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 888 patients in critical care as of noon today, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. 

Yesterday, there were 904 patients in the ICU. 

Of the patients treated in the ICU, 832 were confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 while 56 were suspected cases and cases under investigation. 

Noor Hisham said there was also a reduction of those on ventilators, as 484 patients were on respiratory support today compared to 492 yesterday.

He said 354 of them were confirmed Covid-19 cases and the remaining 130 were suspected, probable and cases under investigation. 

Meanwhile, the health DG said that the number people who have recuperated from the coronavirus continued to outpace new infections as Malaysia reported 15,396 recoveries against 10,915 fresh cases as of noon today. 

A total of 10,776 or 98.7% of the 10,915 cases reported today were in the less severe asymptomatic and mildly asymptomatic categories of 1 and 2. 

Only 139 patients or 1.3% of the cases were in the more serious categories of 3, 4 and 5. 

Noor Hisham added that 10 new Covid-19 clusters were detected in the country today, which contributed to 333 cases. 

He said that four clusters were linked to workplaces (119 cases), four were community transmission (140 cases) and two were detected among high-risk groups (74 cases). 

Johor and Kelantan logged the most number of clusters with three each. All three clusters in Johor were linked to workplaces while two clusters in Kelantan were community transmission and one from the workplace.

Terengganu, Sarawak, Perak and Pahang reported one cluster each.

The number of clusters today takes the total clusters reported in the country to 5,501, of which 1,044 are still active and 4,457 have ended. β€“ October 2, 2021.
