PENGERANG MP Azalina Othman Said has been appointed the special adviser on law and human rights to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

She confirmed on Facebook a news report of the appointment.

In the post, she said she received her appointment letter on Thursday and thanked Ismail for having trust in her.

“God willing, I will do my best for the country,” she added.

Azalina resigned as deputy speaker on August 23, expressing frustration at the lack of parliamentary reforms.

The former lawyer has been vocal about the the need to reform Parliament and the Attorney-General’s Office for the separation of prosecutorial powers.

Her resignation came after Ismail was sworn in as the prime minister, replacing Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin resigned after losing the majority in Parliament upon the withdrawal of support  of 14 Umno lawmakers, including Azalina.

Earlier this week, another Umno MP in that group, Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, was appointed chairman of government-linked company Felcra Bhd.

Under Muhyiddin’s administration, Jazlan was chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, but quit in January to show dissatisfaction with the Perikatan Nasional government. – October 2, 2021.

  • Wrong decision. You better stay outside. Joining government will reduce your ability to speak free. In Malaysia, good honest person will become timid when they joined government.. Just ask Art Harun.
