MALAYSIA is fast approaching the target of 90% vaccination target for adults as some 20.31 million or 86.8% of grown ups are now fully inoculated against Covid-19.
According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 237,245 doses of vaccines were administered yesterday under the national immunisation programme. It said 103,021 were first jabs and 134,224, second jabs.
A total of 43,933,988 doses of vaccine have been administered since the start of the programme on February 24.
The ministry said 94.2% of the adult population and 72.4% of the general population have received at least one vaccine shot.
As of yesterday, 1.5 million adolescents or 48.1% have received one dose of the vaccine and 71,779 or 2.3% are fully dosed.
The two-dose Pfizer vaccine is administered for this group on a programme that commenced September 8. The National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency has granted conditional approval for China’s CoronaVac vaccine, also known as Sinovac, for use on adolescents aged 12 to 17.
The CovidNow website tracker projects that 100% of the adult population will be fully vaccinated by October 25.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said interstate travel would be allowed when 90% of the country’s adult population was fully vaccinated.
The Klang Valley has the highest vaccination rate as 81.4% of its general population and 111.1% of its adult population.
Sabah has the lowest vaccination coverage. It is the only state to have vaccinated less than 70% of the adult population, at 60.8%. Only 43% of its general population are inoculated. – October 2, 2021.
