THE Immigration Department has released a list of those exempted from having to apply for the MyTravelPass (MTP) before travelling overseas effective October 1.
The MTP was issued to those travelling abroad after the borders were closed following the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was enforced to monitor the movement of travellers who were entering and exiting the country as part of efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 cases.
Under the new guidelines those exempted from applying for the MTP include:
1. Malaysians with jobs abroad.
2. New students with offers to study abroad and students who want to take their exams abroad with two escorts.
3. Those who need to attend meetings, seminars, business affairs abroad.
4. People participating in sports exhibitions, competitions and training abroad (they need to submit a letter of support from the regulatory agency.
5. Those travelling to provide emergency care for immediate family members, such as attending to deaths and assisting family members who need help due to accident or illness.
6. People meeting with a wife or husband abroad in cases where the marriage had only been registered abroad.
7. Those participating in humanitarian or religious aid missions (by submitting a letter of approval obtained from government authorities as well as other relevant supporting documents).
8. Holders of long-term passes abroad such as permanent residents, resident pass holders, work pass holders and others from countries subject to additional restrictions, namely India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
The Immigration Department said all documents related to the purpose of travel must be shown to the Immigration officer on duty at the counters at any entrance to the country.
Malaysian diplomats and foreign diplomats need not apply for the MTP as per the existing ruling.
