Recoveries outpace new cases for 12th straight day

MALAYSIA reported 14,160 Covid-19 recoveries against 11,332 new cases as of noon today, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

This means recoveries have outpaced new cases for the 12th consecutive day. 

The total number of recoveries in the country now stand at 2,020, 099. 

Noor Hisham said of the 11,332 new cases reported today, 11,085 individuals or 97.8% were in the less severe categories of 1 and 2, displaying no or mild symptoms. 

Only 247 cases or 2.2% were of the more serious stages of infection, in categories 3, 4 and 5.

He added that 986 patients were being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Of this number, 848 were confirmed coronavirus cases.

The remaining 138 were suspected cases and cases under investigation. 

He said 574 patients are on ventilators, of which 369 are confirmed Covid-19 cases while the other 205 are suspected or probable cases, and cases under investigation.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said that the ministry had detected 15 new Covid-19 clusters today, which accounted for 300 cases. 

He said nine of the clusters were linked to community transmission (182 cases) and the remaining six were traced to workplaces (118 cases). 

Kelantan reported the four clusters today, the highest in a state – three from the community and one from the workplace. 

Other states reporting new clusters are Pahang and Selangor (three each), Johor (two), and Negri Sembilan, Terengganu, Perak (one each).

This brought the total number of clusters reported in the country to 5,447, of which 1,151 are still active and 4,296 have ended. – September 28, 2021.
