RM75 million collected in MCO compounds

THE government said it had collected RM74.92 million in compounds throughout the movement-control order (MCO) period.

“There were 120,974 compounds issued from 2020 till now while the compound collection till September 26 is RM74.92 million,” said the Health Ministry (MOH) in a written reply in Parliament today.

It said 360 cases were referred to the court.

The ministry was responding to Fong Kui Lun (Bukit Bintang-PH) on the number of compounds issued and the fines collected during the MCO period.

Meanwhile, there were 1,860 Covid-19 cases from variants of concern (VOC) and 20 cases from variants of interest (VOI), it said.

As of September 24, there were 1,612 Delta cases, 214 Beta, 14 Alpha. VOI-wise there were 13 Theta, 4 Kappa and 3 Eta.

The states with the highest number of variant cases were Sarawak with 1,059, followed by Selangor (224), Johor (83), Penang (64), Sabah (63)  and Kuala Lumpur, Kedah and Pahang with 57 cases each.

“Sarawak has the highest number of different variant cases because of large-scale genome sequencing done by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak,” MOH said.

It said that there were 75 VOC and VOI deaths with 90.6% (68) of the fatalities arising from the Delta variant followed by 9.4% Beta (7).
