11,332 new Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA logged 11,332 fresh Covid-19 cases as of noon today, a slight increase from yesterday’s 10,959 cases, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

The latest figure brings the country’s cumulative total cases to 2,220,526. 

For a fifth consecutive day, Sarawak reported the highest daily cases by state with 2,358 infections, followed by Johor with 1,319 cases. 

After reporting cases in three digits yesterday, Selangor was back logging cases in four-figures today with 1,231 infections. The most populous state was third in the list today. 

The Klang Valley, which comprises Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (240) and Putrajaya (19), reported a combined 1,490 cases today. 

Apart from Sarawak, Johor and Selangor, Kelantan was the only other state to report cases in four-figure with 1,088 new cases. 

Other states reporting new cases are Sabah (965), Penang (895), Kedah (819), Perak (678), Pahang (677), Terengganu (629), Malacca (303) and Perlis (19).

Negri Sembilan and Labuan, which are in phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan, reported 89 and three cases respectively. 

On overall cases by state, Selangor tops the cumulative tally with 674,360 cases, followed by Sarawak (204,170) and Sabah (195,980).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said that 323,335 doses of vaccine were administered under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme yesterday, of which 172,388 were first shots and 150,947, second doses. 

A total of 42,699,197 doses of vaccine have been administered since the programme kicked off on February 24. 

According to data on the Ministry’s CovidNow website, 19.7 million adults, 84.4% of grown-ups, are fully inoculated as of yesterday.  

Meanwhile, the country has fully vaccinated 30,886 children, or 1% of the population aged 12 to 17. About a million of them have received a first dose. – September 28, 2021.
