10,959 new Covid-19 cases, lowest since July 12

Health authorities report 10,959 new Covid-19 cases today, with Selangor logging its lowest number of cases for the first time since May. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, September 27, 2021.

MALAYSIA reported 10,959 fresh Covid-19 cases as of noon today, the lowest since July 12, director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. 

On July 12, the logged reported 8,574 cases. 

For the first time since May 4, Selangor reported cases in triple digits today with 979 new infections, while the most populous state also fell from the top three states reporting the most daily cases. 

Sarawak continued to top the tally of most daily cases by state for the fourth straight day with 2,723 infections, followed by Johor with 1,226. 

These two are the only states to report cases in four figures.

Kelantan was third with 983 cases. 

The Klang Valley, which comprises Selangor, Kuala Lumpur (176) and Putrajaya (18) accounted for 1,173 cases or 10.9% of the overall cases today. 

Other states reporting new infections are Sabah with 751 cases, Penang (793), Pahang (739), Perak (713), Terengganu (691), Kedah (660), Malacca (346), Negri Sembilan (110) and Perlis (51). 

Labuan was the only territory to report zero cases. 

Cumulatively, the national caseload now stands at 2,209,194. 

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said that a total of 19,633,681 million people or 60.1% of the general population in the country had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as of yesterday. 

A total of 269,465 doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered yesterday under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP), where 117,196 were first jabs and 152,269 people received their second shot.

A total of 42,375,862 doses of vaccine has been administered since the NIP started on February 24. – September 27, 2021.
