Bangladeshi jailed 9 months for passport fraud to get Covid jab

A BANGLADESHI man was sentenced to nine months’ jail by a magistrate’s court in Seremban today after he pleaded guilty to a charge of using another person’s name and passport number to get vaccinated against Covid-19 earlier this month.

Mizan Nur Rahman, 26, was also sentenced to three months’ jail for not having in his possession a valid travel document.

Magistrate Norzaliza Tesmin ordered the sentences to run concurrently from today at the Jelebu prison.

Mizan was found to have duped an officer on duty at a vaccination centre to administer him the dose by claiming to be the bona fide holder of what was another person’s passport number.

Mizan, who works as a cleaner at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban, was also found to have no valid travel documents to enter the country.

Both offences were committed at the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia vaccination centre in Nilai at about 10am on September 13.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Nurul Muhaimin Mohd Azman while the accused was unrepresented. – Bernama, September 24, 2021.
